Preparing Your Vehicle For A Parade
If you have an older vehicle that you are planning to donate to charity in the near future, you may want to take it out on the road for one last hurrah to show your neighbors and friends how you have fixed it up before giving it away. A town parade is a great way to get recognition for your efforts, and you will be able to show off your vehicle with pride. Here are some tips you can use to help make your vehicle stand out and become a superstar before it is passed on to someone in need.
Start With Repairs
If you have any small dents or nicks in the vehicle, take the time to fill them in so the new owners can have a vehicle without flaws. These can be filled in using an auto bonding agent. This is bought at any auto parts or auto body repair store and fairly easy to apply. First, sand down any areas that have dents so the bonding agent will adhere without problem. The bonding material is mixed with a hardener and must be applied right away. Spread it in place with a putty knife. After it has hardened, use sandpaper to smooth out the putty so it is uniform with the existing metal.
Paint To Impress
Give your vehicle a fresh paint job before giving it away. This is where you will want to get creative. A vehicle that is painted in a unique manner will be appreciated while it is being showcased in the parade, and it will be an eye-catching piece that a charity can resell or give away to a family in need. Use your imagination to decorate your vehicle with a theme that will bring smiles to those that see it when it drives by.
A 70's inspired vehicle with a tie-dye paint job and some peace symbols on the bumper would be sure to gain some attention. This can be done by spraying the vehicle with several different colors of paint, making sure to dry each color in between applications. Another fun idea would be to paint it black and paint small white tic-tac-toe boards on the body of the vehicle. Driving In The Parade
Make sure that people are aware that the vehicle in the parade is being donated by placing a sign on it to be read as you drive by. This will let the town know to look for the vehicle after it has made its last run, and people will be inspired to donate vehicles of their own, since it is a charitable thing to do. Place a phone number or webpage name on your vehicle so others will be inclined to follow your lead. Place some festive loud music as you drive your vehicle in the parade, and be sure to smile and wave to spectators so they will read your vehicle's message.
